Design optimization of a novel vertical augmentation channel housing a cross-flow turbine and performance evaluation as a wave energy converter

A novel vertical augmentation channel housing a direct-drive cross-flow turbine, with nozzles on both the sides of was designed and an optimized configuration obtained. The geometries guide nozzle front were under steady flow conditions. performance turbine analyzed using commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code ANSYS-CFX. design then evaluated as wave energy converter experimentally computationally. waves in numerical tank (NWT) generated piston type wave-maker. gave maximum output power 13.2 W efficiency 48.31% at height 0.2 m period 2.75 s for rotational speed 35 rpm. difference between experimental efficiencies within 3.5%. In addition to this, particle image velocimetry used study characteristics turbine. results show that CFD captures around accurately. design, which occupies less space than other converters, can be efficiently harness from waves.
